Black Tea Assam is a black tea from the state of the same name in India. Since 1838, this tea has also been drunk outside India, but in the first 25 years it could not compete with the already popular Japanese and Chinese teas, which had been popular in Europe since the 17th century. Today, about half of the total Indian tea production comes from Assam, making this region more popular than the other famous Indian teas: Darjeeling and Nilgiri.

Usnea barbata, sometimes also called 'old man's beard', is a genus of lichens belonging to the ascomycetes. They are found in moist forests around the world, where they usually hang from tree branches. In rare cases they are also found on the bottom or on rocks. The genus belongs to the family of Parmeliaceae. Beard mosses are characterized by a shrub-like structure and a central axis from which branches arise. In areas free of air pollution they can grow 10 to 20 cm tall.

Lemongrass, also known as sereh (Cymbopogon citratus), belongs to the grass family (Poaceae). This plant is widely used in Asian cuisine, especially in dishes from Thailand, India, Vietnam and Indonesia. Lemongrass thrives in several regions, including India, Africa, Vietnam, Australia and America. In Indonesia it is known as sereh, and this name is also often used in the Netherlands.
The leaves of the lemongrass plant are the culinary stars. They have a refreshing, lemony taste and are not consumed raw. Pieces of lemongrass are often added to dishes during cooking or stewing, after which they are removed before serving.

Eucalyptus belongs to the myrtle family (Myrtaceae) and is native to Australia and adjacent areas. A few specimens were brought to Europe by Joseph Banks during Captain Cook's expedition.
In Europe, eucalyptus is primarily planted in the Mediterranean region. Some species can also grow on the west coast of England and Scotland, although only a few are winter-hardy.
Early oil is extracted from the leaves of several eucalyptus species. The best-known species for this purpose are Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus odorata.

Peppermint oil is extracted from the leaves of the peppermint plant (Mentha piperita), a cross between water mint (Mentha aquatica) and spearmint (Mentha spicata). Peppermint belongs to the Lamiaceae family, which also includes other aromatic herbs such as basil and rosemary.
The plant was recognized as a distinct species in England in the 17th century and has been widely cultivated ever since. Peppermint naturally contains several essential oils, including menthol, menthone, and cineole, which together contribute to its characteristic fresh scent and flavor.

Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) belongs to the mallow family (Malvaceae) and has been spread worldwide by human activity, especially to areas with suitable soil, humidity and climate.
The starch in the carrot, mixed with proteinaceous substances, was formerly used in making marshmallows and bacon. The leaves can be eaten cooked and the flowers can be used raw in salads.

Breechwort (Herniaria glabra) is a low-growing herbaceous plant in the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). The plant can be annual, biennial, or perennial and typically blooms from June to October. Its modest size and growth habit make it particularly noticeable in dry, open areas.
The plant is native to parts of Europe and prefers sandy, poor soil. Its creeping habit and small, greenish flowers often make it inconspicuous in the landscape.
Historical Context
The Dutch name "breukruid" refers to the plant's use in earlier times. Historical herbals and folklore sources mention "breechwort" in connection with traditional uses. These names and descriptions reflect the thinking and customs of the time.

Propolis is a natural, reddish-brown substance produced by honeybees. Within the hive, bees use propolis as a building and sealing material, among other things, to close openings and strengthen the hive's structure.
Honeybees collect propolis starting in the summer on warm days by gathering resins from the buds and leaves of trees and other plants. These resins are mixed with beeswax and processed with saliva and the bees' legs, creating propolis.
Propolis consists of a combination of plant resins, beeswax, essential oils, and pollen, along with small amounts of vitamins and minerals. The composition can vary depending on the plants in the hive's environment.

The Ginkgo biloba (Maidenhairtree), also known as the Japanese temple tree, is a unique deciduous tree with a very long history. The species has been mentioned for centuries in botanical and cultural sources from East Asia and is native to China.
Ginkgo biloba is unique within the plant kingdom and is considered a species with no direct relatives. For this reason, Charles Darwin called the ginkgo a "living fossil." The tree has existed for approximately 250 million years and has survived several mass extinctions. Today, it is planted worldwide as an ornamental and avenue tree.
