Sheep's sorrel (Rumex acetosa) is a perennial plant that is part of the knotweed family (Polygonaceae). This versatile plant grows to a height of 10 to 60 cm and spreads via numerous long, underground runners.
The leaves, which reach a length of 3 to 7 cm, have a characteristic spike shape and vary from obovate to narrow linear. The scientific name is a tautology, composed of both Greek and Latin words. Arktos (Greek) and ursus (Latin) both mean "bear," while staphyle and uva both mean "grape." The name thus emphasizes the same meaning twice.

The Cape geranium has soft, velvety gray-green leaves and deep magenta flowers. The plant's rhizomes turn dark red when dried and ground.

Originally, the Pelargoniums brought to Europe closely resembled common garden geraniums, but botanically, there appears to be a clear difference between this South African species and the geraniums grown in gardens. In the wild, the plant occurs only in a few small areas of South Africa, but today it is also cultivated on plantations.

Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) is a plant in the legume family (Leguminosae) that grows naturally in the fynbos around the Cederberg Mountains in South Africa. Since around 1930, the plant has been cultivated for the production of rooibos tea. The leaves are picked, crushed, and left in the sun to oxidize, giving them their characteristic reddish-brown color.
The name 'rooibos' comes from Afrikaans and means "red forest," derived from the Dutch word.

Rooibos leaves contain various plant compounds, including antioxidants and minerals such as calcium and iron.

Chia, also known as Salvia hispanica, is a plant from the Lamiaceae family, originally from central and southern Mexico and Guatemala. The Aztecs cultivated this plant even before Columbus discovered America, and chia seeds were used as currency to the rulers. Today, chia is still prized in Mexico and Guatemala; the ground seeds are used in dishes, while whole seeds are often added to nutritious drinks.
The main purpose of growing chia is for its seeds, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. About 25-30% of the seed contains vegetable oil, including alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Chia seeds are small and oval, about 1 mm in diameter, and have a color palette of brown, gray-black and white.
