Spearmint - Mentha spicata

Spearmint, also known as green mint (Mentha spicata), is an aromatic perennial plant from the Lamiaceae family. This plant originally comes from Central and Southern Europe, where it regularly establishes itself as a feral plant. Peppermint (Mentha ×piperata), a commonly used variety in food and care products, originated from a cross between spearmint and water mint (Mentha aquatica).

The leaves of spearmint contain a wealth of essential oils, with carvone being the most important. This component is also found in caraway, which gives the mint its characteristic scent. However, the leaves contain little menthol, which makes the taste milder than that of peppermint.

After flowering, the scent and flavor substances in the plant decrease, making the leaves less suitable for culinary and medicinal use.

Spearmint is versatile in the kitchen. The leaves are used to make herbal teas, or as an addition to real tea for a refreshing taste. There are roughly two types of mint tea: herbal tea (also called tisane), in which mint is the main ingredient, and tea with a hint of mint for a subtle aromatic addition.

The leaves of the spearmint are excellent for garnishing drinks, fruit salads, and vegetables. They are also often added to soups and minced meat dishes and are an important ingredient in traditional dishes such as kruidmoes.

Spearmint also has valuable applications outside the kitchen. In the food industry, it is used to add flavor to meat dishes, herbal lemonades, ice cream, sweets, and chewing gum. Spearmint is also popular in toothpaste and cosmetics, where it provides a naturally fresh scent and taste.

Therapist

A therapist is a professional who deals with the treatment of physical or mental illness as a profession. There are countless specializations within this broad field, each with their own treatment methods. Some examples are physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, homeopaths, kinesiologists, osteopaths, mental coaches and hypnotherapists. An important aspect of the therapy is the orthomolecular treatment method, in which nutrition and supportive supplementation play a role.

In contrast to symptom management, the focus of therapy is often on addressing the underlying causes of disorders and promoting preventive health. All aspects that influence health are taken into consideration, such as diet, stress management, exercise and emotional state.

Each client receives a personal treatment plan that is developed by the therapist. This plan is drawn up on the basis of consultations, questionnaires and food diaries to gain an in-depth insight into the client's lifestyle. In addition, various tests and examinations can be performed to determine the balance in the body.
