Pelargonium sidoides is an unassuming plant that grows profusely in sun-warmed, stony soil in the Eastern Cape of South Africa and the grasslands of Lesotho. It belongs to the Geraniaceae family. Originally, the Pelargoniums brought to Europe looked very similar to common geraniums, but now we know that there is a big difference between the South African 'geranium' and the geraniums we know in our gardens. In the wild, the plant only occurs in a few small areas in South Africa, but fortunately it is now also grown on South African plantations.
