Russian / Chinese Rhubarb - Rheum palmatum / Rheum officinalis

Rheum officinale, also known as Chinese rhubarb or Russian rhubarb, belongs to the knotweed family (Polygonaceae). The plant is native to mountainous regions of western and northwestern China, India, Tibet, Russia, and Turkey, at altitudes between 1,200 and 4,000 meters. Rheum officinale can reach a height of 1.5 to 2 meters.

The stems of the plant are often used as food, while the leaves contain oxalic acid and are therefore unsuitable for consumption.

The roots of Rheum officinale are traditionally used in Chinese culture, where they are known as yào yòng dà huáng (药用大黄). The roots contain various plant compounds, including hydroxyanthracenes, tannins, calcium oxalate, fatty acids, resins, starch, stilbene glycosides, and traces of essential oils.

For traditional uses, the roots are harvested from plants that are several years old. They are dried and sometimes processed into cubes. The root is used worldwide in herbal preparations and teas and is valued for its rich composition of natural substances.

Dosage

A usual dosage varies from 1 to 3 grams per day, depending on the application. This can be prepared as a tea (decoction) or taken directly.

Important Precautions

Do not use the roots for more than 8 days in a row.

Avoid use in children under 12 years of age, pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding.

Therapist

A therapist is a professional who deals with the treatment of physical or mental illness as a profession. There are countless specializations within this broad field, each with their own treatment methods. Some examples are physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, homeopaths, kinesiologists, osteopaths, mental coaches and hypnotherapists. An important aspect of the therapy is the orthomolecular treatment method, in which nutrition and supportive supplementation play a role.

In contrast to symptom management, the focus of therapy is often on addressing the underlying causes of disorders and promoting preventive health. All aspects that influence health are taken into consideration, such as diet, stress management, exercise and emotional state.

Each client receives a personal treatment plan that is developed by the therapist. This plan is drawn up on the basis of consultations, questionnaires and food diaries to gain an in-depth insight into the client's lifestyle. In addition, various tests and examinations can be performed to determine the balance in the body.

Cooperation

At Eerlijkgezond.nu we strongly believe in the power of collaboration between patients and therapists. We understand how essential it is to find the right therapist that really suits you. Discover the value of collaborating with one of the dedicated therapists below.
